Dear Parents:

WELCOME to the Bristol Public Schools English Learners' (EL) Program web page.

Approximately 350-380 English Learner (EL) students are educated in our schools yearly.

Bristol provides services to all 12 schools utilizing SIX TESOL(certified Teacher of English to speakers of another language) staff. With the assistance of nine part-time EL tutors, who are certified teachers, the staff is highly dedicated and strongly advocate for the needs of our students.

This year, FIVE schools in Bristol have been designated bilingual schools. A school is designated bilingual when the number of students speaking the same language numbers 20 or more. At these FIVE schools, Spanish is the dominant language of our EL students. Our FIVE bilingual schools are Bristol Central High School, Bristol Eastern High School, Greene Hills, Hubbell and West Bristol.

Bristol is proud of the accomplishments demonstrated by our EL population. Our commitment and dedication to our students is exceptional. We strive to provide academic, cultural and social support to all of ELs everyday.

We have welcomed families around the world... from Turkey, Albania, Russia, Poland, Germany, Pakistan, India, Vietnam, China, Dominican Republic, Portugal, Puerto Rico, Ecuador, Bangladesh, Hungary and Mexico and many more!

If you have questions about your son or daughter's eligibility or participation in the EL program, please contact me at 860-584-7865 or email me at [email protected].

Your son or daughter's progress is important to us!

Sincerely,
Lawrence Covino, Supervisor
